In FYS class, I was assigned to do a presentation about African American culture. I could deliver the presentation well by following these steps. The First things I did was to look up “culture” meaning. I was not cleared of what components makes our culture.
Through CAD class, understanding a question correctly is the first step to assess the answer, I have learned
Second,
When I have chosen a resource of the presentation, I tried different key terms such as dance, arts or music. I could find a good source from the research.
The technique I used for the research was to try different key terms and look at the beginning of the sentence if the source is interesting for me.
Third, When I stuck writing on my powerpoint, I just write an outline. It helps me to keep thinking and writing.
Finally, at the presentation, I stand imposingly and say words without looking at my scratch paper.
Every moment I made this presentation, I considered about audiences because I have learned that thinking about the audience is thinking about the quality of communication.

  1. From this blog I learned that when stuck, write an outline at least. Which I think is a great strategy because there are many times when writers get stuck, whether that's at the beginning of the writing task, mid-way or towards the end. There's always a risk of not being able to continue. I also really liked the idea of not looking at the scratch paper while presenting which I think is very important. When a speaker is busy looking at notes, they lose the attention of the audience and as Hayata pointed out, considering the audience is thinking of the quality of communication. I will definitely try to practice this strategy in my other classes as presentations are something we, students, have to present in most of our classes no matter which major it is. If we can excel in presenting presentations or speeches in front of our audience, we can start being a more successful rhetor.

  2. After reading over this blog post, I found the importance of fully understanding a question before getting to complete the assignment. In order to fulfill the requirements of the assignment I think that it is important to understand the information you are presenting to the class, rather than just filling up the slide and having no idea what you are talking about. I liked the idea of the outline idea as I myself have grown out of the habit of doing so, but it can be very helpful in order to brainstorm before writing the official thing. As for the audience, I liked how you took them into consideration that would help you communicate effectively towards them.

  3. Making an outline and trying to understand the main aspects put forth by the author is very important and it allows the reader to comprehend the entire article faster and in a better way.
